Terms of Use

The short version: Class Fish Tank is free for teachers to use in their classrooms. Use it kindly and lawfully, enter only first names or nicknames for students, follow your school's rules, and understand that it is provided as-is by a small personal project.

1. Using Class Fish Tank

By creating an account or using Class Fish Tank ("the service") you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. You must be an adult (18 or older) to create an account. Accounts are for teachers and other adults running a classroom or group.

2. Your account

Keep your password safe and don't share your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has access to it, change your password and tell us at classfishtank@gmail.com.

3. Your classroom content

You keep ownership of what you put in (classroom names, student names, uploaded pictures). You give us permission to store and display it only so we can run the service for you. You agree that:

you will enter only first names or nicknames for students, and no other personal information about them;
you have the right to use any picture you upload, and it is appropriate for a classroom;
you will follow your school's and district's policies on using online tools with students.

4. Acceptable use

Don't use the service to break the law, to harass or harm anyone, or to upload anything offensive, violent, sexual or otherwise inappropriate for children. Don't try to access other people's accounts or data, overload or attack the service, or get around its limits and security. We may suspend or delete accounts that break these rules.

5. A free service, provided as-is

Class Fish Tank is free and run as a personal project. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, and it may sometimes be unavailable. Please keep your own copy of anything important (Settings → Fish list → Export).

6. Changes and ending the service

We may change, add or remove features. If we ever decide to shut the service down, we will give teachers at least 30 days' notice by email so they can export their data. You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time in Settings.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the service. Because the service is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to US $50.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date above, and for important changes we'll let you know by email or in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
